During the trial of the High Court of Islamabad against the alleged publication of blasphemous content on Islam on social media, the federal government has taken the stand that the ban on social media is not the solution to this problem.
The plaintiff in this petition says that if the government fails to remove the content from social media then access to social media in Pakistan should be banned.
Responding to this point on behalf of the government of Pakistan, Home Secretary Arif Khan told the court that 85 per cent of the content based on abusive material has been removed while action is underway to remove 40 social media pages.
However, he made it clear that banning Facebook is not the solution to harassing abusive content because the content on Facebook is linked to various websites which is almost impossible to completely eliminate until the Internet is closed from across the country. Don't be done.
At the last hearing, Justice Shaukat Siddiqui had said that Facebook could be banned in the country if Facebook does not block abusive content.
However, during Monday's hearing, the court expressed satisfaction with the various departments that identified the abusive material and the steps taken so far to remove it.
The interior ministry's secretary told the court that last Friday the FIA ​​arrested three people from different areas, at least two of which were found to be directly involved in publishing pernicious material.
He told the court that the Pakistani embassy in Washington raised the issue, while ambassadors from 27 countries came to our invitation and agreed to take up the issue internationally. Justice Shaukat strongly criticized the Information Technology Minister, saying that Anusha Rehman and Federal Minister for Religious Affairs should explain why the matter has not been resolved yet.
