Govt declares national emergency to curb locust threat
ٹڈیوں کے خطرے سے نمٹنے کے لئے حکومت نے قومی ہنگامی صورتحال کا اعلان کیا
ISLAMABAD (TheWalkerPost) – The government on Friday has decided to impose a national emergency to protect the crops in the wake of locust threat which is swarming all over the agriculture domain of the country.
Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over a high-level meeting today which was convened to combat the locust problem. A National Action Plan (NAP) was approved to eliminate the plight while, a high-level committee was also formed to devise an effective strategy at the federal level to get rid of the threat from different parts of the country.
PM Imran said that the protection of agriculture and farmers is the foremost priority of the government.
Under the plan, responsibilities were assigned at federal, provincial and districts level while National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also been given tasks to curb the threat. Secretary National Food Security Division will head the committee. The federal government will provide all the necessary resources in this regard.
The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in the first week of September 2019 had warned that the situation relating to locusts in Pakistan was “most serious” as a second generation of the insect had been bred.
According to the FAO’s Locust Watch report, there remains a risk of further breeding, causing locust numbers to increase, with the possibility of swarm formation from late September onward.
اسلام آباد (دی واکر پوسٹ) - حکومت نے جمعہ کو ٹڈیوں کے خطرے کے پیش نظر فصلوں کے تحفظ کے لئے ایک قومی ہنگامی صورتحال نافذ کرنے کا فیصلہ کیا ہے جو ملک کے تمام زراعت کے شعبے میں پھیل رہا ہے۔
وزیر اعظم عمران خان نے آج ایک اعلی سطحی اجلاس کی صدارت کی جو ٹڈیوں کے مسئلے سے نمٹنے کے لئے بلایا گیا تھا۔ اس حالت زار کے خاتمے کے لئے نیشنل ایکشن پلان (نیپ) کی منظوری دی گئی ، جبکہ ملک کے مختلف حصوں سے اس خطرے سے نجات کے لئے وفاقی سطح پر ایک موثر حکمت عملی تیار کرنے کے لئے ایک اعلی سطحی کمیٹی بھی تشکیل دی گئی۔
وزیر اعظم عمران نے کہا کہ زراعت اور کاشتکاروں کا تحفظ حکومت کی اولین ترجیح ہے۔
منصوبے کے تحت وفاقی ، صوبائی اور اضلاع کی سطح پر ذمہ داریاں تفویض کی گئیں جبکہ نیشنل ڈیزاسٹر مینجمنٹ اتھارٹی (این ڈی ایم اے) کو بھی اس خطرے سے نمٹنے کے لئے کام سونپا گیا ہے۔ سکریٹری نیشنل فوڈ سیکیورٹی ڈویژن کمیٹی کے سربراہ ہوں گے۔ وفاقی حکومت اس ضمن میں تمام ضروری وسائل مہیا کرے گی۔
اقوام متحدہ کے ’فوڈ اینڈ ایگریکلچرل آرگنائزیشن‘ (ایف اے او) نے ستمبر 2019 کے پہلے ہفتے میں انتباہ کیا تھا کہ پاکستان میں ٹڈیوں سے متعلق صورتحال "انتہائی سنگین" ہے کیونکہ اس کیڑے کی دوسری نسل پیدا ہوئی ہے۔
ایف اے او کی ٹڈی واچ واچ کی رپورٹ کے مطابق ، اس میں مزید افزائش نسل کا خطرہ ہے ، جس کی وجہ سے ٹڈیوں کی تعداد میں اضافہ ہوتا ہے ، اور ستمبر کے آخر سے بھیڑ کی تشکیل کے امکانات ہیں۔
